Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t – you’re probably right…

Have you been feeling like you can’t achieve your entrepreneurial goals lately? Do you feel stuck in a negative mindset? You’re not alone. This article provides:

  • Insight into the connection between thoughts, feelings, and beliefs
  • Tactics to change your internal dialogue from negative to positive
  • Ways to effectively use declarations and affirmations to change your outlook on yourself and your business

What you believe is important. Subconscious beliefs influence our thoughts and those thoughts create our feelings. Feelings produce behaviours and actions, which then reinforce our subconscious beliefs. The cycle keeps going and it can either be a vicious or a virtuous cycle. It’s your choice.

If you’re having trouble making this cycle a virtuous one, don’t hesitate to reach out for help! It really is OK not to be OK…

We’ve all experienced a time where thoughts like these infiltrate our minds and make it difficult to be positive and to have constructive beliefs and actions. When work is stressful, it can be challenging to overcome negative thoughts and harmful self-talk.

These thoughts can’t just be overcome with willpower, it requires changes in our mindset and our beliefs.

Changing our internal monologue is crucial for creating a belief system that benefits us and helps us to grow in all aspects of life.

To do this, you must declare your intent and affirm your belief.

Declarations (Action – I will)

  • Powerful statement on what you want to achieve
  • Commitment to achieve a result you want
  • You need intent – wishes and hope don’t suffice

Example: “I will focus on my contact database for the next 90 days, connect with 20 new people every week, and follow up with meaningful conversations.”

or “I will stop smoking completely – no excuses and no compromise.”

Challenge:
While remembering your short-term goals, make a declaration of intent.

Affirmations (Maintenance – I am)

  • Maintain the good performance
  • Drown out the negative internal voices
  • Help to overcome short-term gratification that undermines long-term happiness

Example: “I know the problems that my prospects need to solve – I have developed good solutions and I am well-qualified to assist them.”

or “I am a non-smoker – I am healthier, I smell better and my fingers aren’t yellow.”

Affirmations are an essential part of positive thinking and self-empowerment, which businesspeople and entrepreneurs need in order to maintain positive performance.

Your affirmations need to follow four rules, they must be:

  • In the present tense
  • Based on positive
  • beliefs
  • Personal to you
  • Specific

These aren’t new concepts. Religious people have been practicing this for ages! They declare their faith, then attend church or worship to affirm their beliefs. That’s how they hold themselves accountable, maintain their commitment to their higher power, and embody their values.

Challenge:
Think about how you would like to position yourself and your business to your prospects. Create an affirmation and decide what you will do to bring yourself to the place that you want to be. Following these steps and examples may help:

  • Imagine an affirmation you would like to make: “I am a highly respected and valued professional.”
  • Work out what evidence you would need in order to believe that thought: Qualifications, accreditations, case studies, testimonials, and a system
  • Plan to collect that evidence: Declare your intent, write out your action steps, and take action!

Once you brainstorm your declaration(s) and affirmation(s), you will have a clear plan for how to move forward in business and in life with a newfound mindset of positivity and achievement. You have the power to change your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs… it just takes declaring your intent and affirming your beliefs. Once again, if you’re having trouble turning a vicious thought pattern into a virtuous thought pattern, don’t hesitate to reach out for help!
