Amber Mae’s Cakes was launched in Stourbridge by Amber Mae Richardson after she completed a local start-up programme delivered by Good2Great and funded through Dudley Borough Council. What began as a long-held hobby quickly became a new business built around creativity, flexibility and balance.
Amber wanted a career change that allowed her to work from home, support her family and do something she genuinely enjoyed. After struggling with her mental health during the COVID period, she decided to step away from employment and focus on baking, something she had always loved.
She now creates bespoke celebration cakes, cupcakes, brownies and cookies, offering personalised designs for customers across the Dudley area. One of her early highlights was completing her first event, which received strong feedback and led to repeat bookings. Positive reactions from customers continue to reinforce her confidence and belief in the business.
Amber credits the Good2Great start-up course with helping her take the idea seriously and move forward with confidence. The programme showed her that building a business was possible and helped her turn a hobby into a viable income stream.
Looking ahead, Amber hopes to be fully booked each week, work from her own unit and collaborate with other local small businesses as she grows.
